When I firstmoved to L.A., there was no spot for me. I don't know why or how, but I believed I wouldbe okay. I had no business even thinking that I would be able to pay my bills as anactor. I didn't have a choice-- I always knew I would be an artist. I thought I would be amusician, so, strangely, I ended up an actor, but there was no evidence that I would be"okay." The one way for it to not happen is to quit. I come from a long line ofworkaholics, so I was making something else when I wasn't working as an actor. Iwrote, directed in the studio, and helped others with their projects. Acting can be avery lonely experience. It hasn't been mine because what I love most about my work isthat it's highly collaborative. Iused Ivory Soap on my face, applying it with facialbrushes my mom used to buy from her Avonrepresentative. For a face mask, I would put raw eggwhites on my face for about 20-30 minutes. Andbelieve it or not, my facial moisturizer was regularlotion or an ultra-thin Vaseline film.From my early twenties to now, I have used CetaphilCleanser and oxy pads to clean my face. I also apply aretinol, moisturizer, and sunscreen. As I have gottenolder, I've noticed that my eyelashes tend to shed a lotfaster. I discovered Grande Lash MD Lash EnhancingSerum and am beyond pleased with the results; I getmany compliments on how long my lashes are.I also make it a point in the morning (when I can) todunk my face in ice water three times, for about 10-15seconds each time. But I'm happy to share that it'shealthy (so much so that when I wear mynatural hair on social media, peopleassume it's a wig). I only wear wigs forspecial occasions and usually use theglueless option. I wear my natural hairdaily and focus on having a good haircare routine.The first step to an excellent natural hairroutine (with or without a relaxer) isidentifying your hair porosity. Your hairporosity helps determine what productsare right for you and what's not. I struggled with acne as a teenagerand young adult, which affected myself-esteem; so, I've made it mymission to study my skin over theyears and work with dermatologistsas well as research products that arehelpful for my skin until I ultimatelyfound what works best for me. Mynumber one tip would be to drink a lotof water and be mindful of the foodyou eat - avoid greasy and sugaryfoods as much as possible becauseclear skin starts from within. My second tip is to find a greatcleanser. It is the most essential stepin your daily routine because if yourskin isn't clean, it doesn't matterwhat cream or serum you put on it.Lastly, monthly facials are a must - Iusually opt for a HydraFacial withextractions to get a professionaldeep clean. My skincare routinestays the same throughout the year,but I use more SPF during thesummer and more oil-freemoisturizers during the winter. Mytop three products are Shiseidodeep foam cleanser, Shiseido Wasooil-free moisturizer, and Mary Kaysalicylic toner.
